2023 09 06 Image of the week

I love images of mushrooms, fungi and slime mold. I’ve taken many photos myself but nothing I find compares to the brilliant images I find online. The variety is astounding, the shapes, colours and sheer visuality of many are otherworldly.

Barry Webb, Cribraria

Just superb! And this, as was kindly pointed out to me in the comment section, is a slime mold.

considering each of these fruiting bodies is the size of a pinhead, I hate to think how big the macro lens was. This is not a fungi but a slime mold which is a whole other group of organisms that are classified separately. but don’t let all that technical stuff stop you enjoying an amazing photo

Hi victoriaedm and thank you so much for your comment. The image came from This Colossal which didn’t give the exact category relating to this organism and I couldn’t find it on Barry Webb’s own site. However, on going through his imagery it does seem to quite obviously fit into the slime mold arena. I’ll make the adjustment in my text and glad you pointed it out. If you like this stuff do look him up because his photos are outstanding.
