Nenad Zeljic, Scene, aquatint 20x25cm, 2019

I’ve recently come across Nenad Zeljic in an on-line print group.

I see mystery in this piece.  Its sheer simplicity, reduced colour palette, lack of grounding in any recognisable space and no obvious emotion is intriguing. The moody and slightly disturbing feeling it emanates has me wanting to understand more.  Why a very simple chair in a large empty space?  What does it signify?

Having contacted the artist he tells me that this is the chair he has been sitting on all his life, from elementary school until the present day. So not a sinister item at all.

I love that we view a person’s work and take away our own impression and interpretation.
