Connections Project – New prints & ideas

Continuing experimentation

My last post described how I’m moving more towards connections & connectivity and away from circuitry.  In a break from the very sharp, semi-abstract patterning I’ve produced so far I created a word list to help me find a more definite direction.  Some surprising things emerged:

Continuous loop, running track, elastic band, tank tread
Train network, train tracks, motorways and junctions
Metal fencing, picket fence, barbed wire fence, stone walls, brick walls
Garden path, crazy paving, cobble stone walkway, walking tracks

Leaves, stems, fronds, tendrils, trunks, roots, seeds, propagation

Circuit board, cog mechanism, electric wiring, pipelines, conduits, waterways

Brain, neurons, nodes, vascular system, growth-regeneration-death, reproduction

The first things I notice are scattered thoughts and too many conflicting themes.
My next thought is “Why have a made this list?  Am I not happy with the prints I’ve produced so far?”  The answer came immediately “Some resonate, some don’t”.

I decided to put these aside and try something more organic.

Along the tracksTendrils

I’ll pursue this avenue for a while, even though my project doesn’t seem to be moving forward very decisively.  Two very different print sets appearing now, but perhaps that’s not a bad thing.  My sense is that this needs to go wherever the mood takes me on the day I’m in the print studio.  Desperately trying not to overthink it.
