My recent flower drawing led me to start a few small stitch samples of flowers.  I’ve always liked simplified designs as can be seen from some of my painting efforts from some time ago (not within this course).

Looking at these makes me think I should get my paints out again.  Anyway, to stitching.

Not trying to make anything realistic, just playing with a few different stitches – a variety of chains, lock stitch, pistil stitch and the like.

This close up of the flower heads shows how effective it is to raise stitches from the surface by stitching over clear aquarium tubing.

Here we have individual chain stitches in variegated stranded cotton and pistil stitches with colonial knots in Mogear mohair.  Fun to do once you get the hang of holding the tiny tube circles in place.

To the left are felt triangles covered in netting, stitched in place.  Perle 5 and 8 in stem stitch make the stems and fronds.

This flower, to the right, has a stalk of stem stitched rows with bullion ‘leaves’.

The head is elongated sorbello knots in two weights of thread, colonial knots in the centre and the trusty pistil stitches in wool again.

Just a bit of relaxation while I undertake the research for my next assignment.
