I’m not the biggest fan of textile collage usually but this piece, by Barbara Shaw, caught my attention this week.

Barbara Shaw, 17th Century Chair, 2014, Fabric scraps including lace, chiffon, organza, cotton, silk and sparkly material. Grey thread to hand stitch the pieces together in layers.

  1. Yes, I think the ‘shading’ layers surrounding the chair really bring it to life. Gives it a great dimension.

  2. That is really inspiring. I went to a Mandy Pattullo workshop and we applied the same process of using scraps that were secured into a ground and then over stitched. Using slightly different tones of colour and textures gives real depth to the work.
