Last night I went to see the brilliant Steve Balbi perform with Danielle Spencer (Russell Crowe’s wife) at The Vanguard in Newtown, an Arty suburb of Sydney. Fantastic venue, wonderful music, great food and very intimate with only 130 people.

Walking towards the club we passed what looked like an open garage door and I glanced in, stopping in my tracks with my mouth falling open. There in front of me was an enormous second hand book warehouse. Seeing as we were a little early for the concert I suggested we have a quick browse – not that we could get to see much in 15 minutes but anything is better than nothing. Having been directed to the textile art section (and my husband to Sci-Fi) I immediately stumbled across 2 potential purchases, both of which ended up coming home with me.
Colour books
The Victoria Finlay book looks fascinating as it is an account of her quest to uncover the many stories hidden inside the paintbox. It seems that she travelled widely looking at the many ways colour is both produced and used.
The Color Harmony Compendium has come without the CD-ROM unfortunately (Thanks very much to whoever took it) but, as can be seen from the front cover here, it has a colour wheel inserted for use. Nice idea. Looking at the index it covers the colour wheel, moods and colour, the psychology of colour, special effects of colour and much, much more. It has hundreds and hundreds of colour swatches, product colour samples and is full of all sorts of colour analysis.
How lucky to have been in exactly the right place at exactly the right time, as the OCA Project I’m just starting is entitled Colour, Design, Printing & Painting.
