Project: Impact
The theme for this year’s postcard swap is Distortion and my design has become a bit of a mixed media piece.
Using lino is very versatile as it can be cut into specific shapes, thereby eliminating rolled ink getting into unwanted areas and creating interference in the printed outcome. I use a good quality Stanley knife and try to get a decent first pass around the entire area, creating a reasonable depth of cut for subsequent passes.

I use hot pressed 300gsm watercolour postcards for my prints. They are robust, don’t buckle, take the ink well and have a smooth surface which helps to achieve a crisp print.
The cards shown here come in a pack of 12 and are acid free cotton paper.
There’s no reason why they couldn’t be soaked for etching or collagraphs and put under weights to dry flat once printed.
Once the main image was printed I cut a stencil for the remainder, applied colour à la poupée, and hand coloured the flowers.

Materials: 300gsm watercolour cards, Fine Art Inks oil-based Stormy Grey ink, acrylic paints.
