Exercise 1 – Supplementary
Jane posted a comment on my blog about the previous exercise asking what I thought the colours would look like reversed . So here are a few samples.
Starting from the top left and moving across and down my comments are:
I can’t make up my mind which is the more dominant between the blue/turquoise and the burgundy. They both look terrific.
I like the orange in the centre of the dominant blue (even though it looks fuzzy edged) and I think the blue still stands out the most when the roles are reversed and it is in a smaller proportion.
I love the white in the centre of the red. It looks clear, clean and crisp. I think if a thin black line were drawn around the example of red on white surround you would get a better effect and it would be more contained.
Still dislike the green in the middle of the pink. The reverse is marginally better but not really a pleasing colour effect for my eyes.
The blue/turquoise and purple samples are dynamic and uplifting. Which do I prefer? Well probably the one with the larger purple area but that could have something to do with my overall lack of enthusiasm for a lot of blues. I think the blue seems less abrasive on the purple than the reverse.
It’s a dark, dull, rainy day here in southern Sydney and the light isn’t great for photography. It’s hard to get the depth of colour of the papers right at the best of times. Where on earth is Spring?
